Underdog “Big Board” Best Ball Tourney: Nuking ADPs

Underdog has had a “Big Board” best ball fantasy football tourney up for several weeks now. Obviously the “Big Board” name refers to the fact that this is taking place before the NFL draft so you’re guessing where the rookies (and free agents) could go. I’m glad we could clear that up.

Don’t Tell Me About “Not Reaching” In Fantasy Football Drafts

This is actually the first “Big Board” draft I’ve done, although it marks my seventh best ball draft overall for 2021. I am always blowing past ADPs (average draft position, get with it) when I draft because I’m irresponsible and unnecessarily dangerous, but it makes me feel cool. I was also slightly incapacitated during the duration of this draft so it was far worse than normal.

Really, the fun got started when I drafted Brandon Aiyuk at 4.6, more than a round above his ADP. I’ve already been sniped a few times and I’m not letting that become a habit. Get ahead of the Aiyuk hype now.

Did I need to take DeVante Parker 17 spots ahead of ADP? No. But do I have a very good reason for doing so? No.

But it got worse from there, because I went 30 spots up on Phillip Lindsay LOL.

Jumping the gun 20 spots for Jalen Reagor is fine with me because I’m addicted to second-year wide receivers surrounded by uncertainty, and of course I’m going to be dumb about drafting Rondale Moore. I think I’ve drafted him on all my teams so far. We’re trying to have some fun here, Australia.

Other notes from this best ball fantasy draft:

  • J.K. Dobbins could end up being one of my favorite second round picks this year, along with Stefon Diggs.

  • I failed miserably on the stacking front, coming out of it with just a soft Baker Mayfield-Austin Hooper stack, which I feel embarrassed even writing.

  • I’ve already drafted Joe Burrow a few times this year, as his ADP, on the surface, seems soft. At the same time, plenty of questions remain about Burrow’s comeback from last year’s knee injury. It’s early, but from what I’ve heard so far, most don’t expect him ready for the start of the season. Maybe I should stop drafting him…

  • Donald Parham :)

Hundreds of more drafts to go. In the meantime, make sure you’re listening to The FantasyUnleashd Podcast. New episodes weekly-ish. They are explicit. All the links are right here.
