Curtis Samuel, Backup Running Back
I guess I’ll be the one to say this. Curtis Samuel could be the Panthers’ backup running back. In a recent Establish the Run podcast, Adam Levitan read some quotes from new offensive coordinator Joe Brady. One was about how Brady didn’t want his players to learn positions, but instead learn concepts -- already telling us he likes the idea of blending position groups.
If Carolina is hoping to reduce Christian Mccaffrey’s workload, the best option may actually come from the wide receiver position. It’s interesting, too, that data shows that using wide receivers in the rushing game is quite effective. What an interesting coincidence that the team has no backup RB, yet there’s a former running back at the receiver position.
Samuel is regularly going behind the likes of Sammy Watkins and Breshard Perriman in drafts. A Robert Woods-like rushing bump for Samuel could provide some solid late-round value.
Grab him in the 12th if you want him.
